The lights turn on along with the controller using the "PS" button.
 

*optional at checkout: add an On/Off button mounted on the rear of the controller. It allows the user to turn the lights on or off independent of the controller.. In other words if you want to use the controller without having the lights on you can.. saves a little battery life.
No assembly is required, you connect the usb charging cable the same as the factory controller. The lights cycle through 6 colors (slow transition)
